Bleached Blonde Music

Bleached Blonde Music

While perusing Spin’s 4o Must See Acts at SXSW, half wishing we were there for the fun, half thankful we are not going anywhere, we stumbled upon the band Bleached. The group are a sister/sister duo Jessica and Jennifer Clavin coming out of the Smell scene, which is just all the rage now, and making particularly gruff rock music for two blonde girls.

Their sound is something ripped from the same page as other 1970s soft punk newcomers lately, who are making things a little hipper but still have the long greasy hair that their rock forefathers had. The two sisters were a part of the now defunct punk band Mika Miko and Jennifer was actually a part of the post-punk band Cold Cave for a brief period. The girls are currently releasing 7″ on Art Fag Recordings but have previously were releasing on Ooga Booga because of course they were.

They girls are also in a strange way carrying on a torch in Los Angeles of sister artistic powerhouses, standing as the punk rock music version of Rodarte‘s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who are very punk rock in their own right. If you are taking on SXSW, check them out today and tomorrow as they are performing at various places you can find here. Catch their (quick) videos for “Think of You” (which is shot in Highland Park) and “Dazed.” Also, enjoy the above .gif because I had to include it in the post.
