Darren The Chef’s Champagne Marshmallows

Darren The Chef's Champagne Marshmallows

The final treasure we found at Atwater Village Farm is a sweet treat we usually pass up, something that has become somewhat trendy: marshmallows. Everywhere from Heath Ceramics to Gelson’s are carrying gourmet versions of these and we’ve never actually purchased them because, well, they’re marshmallows! Who cares about marshmallows aside from people camping who want to make s’mores??? Well, we saw some at AVF and had to get them. Why? They are champagne flavored.

These little treats come from Darren The Chef, a local fine food caterer and fine food maker who sells his treats at farmers markets. He had a few flavors at AVF, these fruity and dainty and somewhat “cute” treats. The one that obviously stood out to us was the one made after or influenced by booze.

They are packaging in this simple little bag, the branding and sealing ingredient tag likely printed and prepped by Darren himself. The marshmallows are petite and cute and a little pinkish-orangey-white. Picking one up, they are certainly some of the lightest and softest marshmallows we’ve ever encountered. The taste isn’t necessarily champagne as much as it’s an extremely light peach, with a soft sweetness you can smell when you open the bag. They’re a nice after dinner bite, perhaps perfectly suited for some mega classy s’mores.

Be sure to swing by AVF to grab some of his treats or the Silver Lake and Atwater Village Farmers Markets. You can also give him a Like on Facebook, which he updates quite frequently.
