The LA Premiere of Your Sister’s Sister

The LA Premiere of Your Sister's Sister

For one heavenly evening I was immersed in the crush of highly-recognizable, gorgeous people at the premiere of Your Sister’s Sister at the Arclight, as opposed to the more likely scenario involving me, traffic and the party’s congested wake on Sunset Blvd. This week IFC Films and Flux hosted a swanky party for the excellent new Lynn Shelton film opening this weekend.

I loved Shelton’s last film, Humpday, which also starred actor/filmmaker Mark Duplass. If you’ve watched one of Duplass’s films, or perhaps his ridiculously funny series, The League, then you already know he is a genius with comedic improv. Shelton is a master of naturalism, so their collaborations are relatable films that almost feel like a scene from your own life, that is if you made some really interesting choices, like trying to make a gay porno with your best bro, or if you met your best friend’s sister and…well, I won’t spoil that surprise! Your Sister’s Sister is hilarious and at times the realism is delightfully cringeworthy. The man sitting next to me squirmed and groaned the entire film, completely absorbed in the tense love triangle plot. I love this clip where Emily Blunt surprises Duplass and Rosemarie Dewitt.

Flux held the after party at the nearby Wood & Vine. Stills from the film were projected onto the wall above the crowd mingling around the fire pit. My friend and I sipped on hand crafted cocktails of ginger, honey and tequila inspired by the film as we played a who’s who guessing game with the actors and filmmakers packing the place. Never ones to leave a good party early, we lingered on our barstools with most of the cast of The League drinking right along next to us. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
