The Beverly Design District Welcomes NK Shop

NK1

Trust me, you don’t want me at your party. It’s bad enough that I spill things at my friends’ lovely homes, but last Thursday I was faced with my biggest challenge yet: could I attend the opening of NK Shop, the excellent new retail collaboration of designers Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe and not spill on their gorgeous textiles, custom furniture or well-curated selection of vintage goods? We’ll see, but first, more on the shop.

When not running their interior design firm, Nickey Kehoe, Inc, whose clients include Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo, this duo scours the globe for unique wares for the shop. I love these hand made incense sticks by the Parisian company Astier De Villatte. The packaging alone makes them perfect host gifts. The jewelry from Kiel Mead and Bario-Neal well complement the shop’s modern yet rustic aesthetic.

The furniture was difficult to photograph, since it was continuously occupied by guests enjoying both the shop’s ambiance and catering by Taste, but think rustic wooden tables and perfectly worn leather sofas. Next time you are in the market for home furnishings, be sure to check out this welcome addition to the Beverly design district. While I can happily say that no merchandise was harmed in the research for this post, I did not come away unscathed. As I photographed this cool star in the shop’s outdoor garden, I realized that my other hand was pouring the contents of my drink down the front of my dress. Smooth move. At least I was outside so hopefully I’m still welcome back, which is more than I can say for so many places.
