Katherine Dube’s Prickly Pots

Katherine Dube's Prickly Pots

Since we’ve been obsessing over pots and pot today, we thought we’d share some more pots. These aren’t really pots (we just wanted the catchy title) but they are these multi-purpose vessels by local ceramic artist Katherine Dube. They’re these prickly pretty pieces of porcelain that are just so dang good looking.

She has two sets of these prickle pots: her Tupolino Serving Sets and CloudNineCeramics. The Tupoline series are hand constructed and fired with glaze and gold (yes, 24K gold), which she then individually attached ceramic spirals to. The CloudNine series are very similar but stripped down to just white. These are wheel thrown and a bit more functional since, well, they don’t have gold tummies. The bowls and pitchers and shapes she makes are made to be used, yes, but are so fine that I’m not sure I’d ever want to put anything in them aside from a little paper that says “Please Do Not Touch.”

Both sets of ceramics are wonderful because they very much look like she plucked them from some deep sea reef that was creating small pots as a byproduct. We’d love to have just one of them to place on a shelf because they’re pretty out of this world. Katherine is also making tons of similar items and great installations, too. You can get more of her work here.
