Pablo Ravazzani Visits Los Angeles

Pablo Ravazzani is a not-Los Angeles based photographer who we believe lives in New York. He has a very distinct, minimalistic style that he typically uses for fashion photography. He was recently in Los Angeles and took a lot of photos that view Los Angeles from a very unique perspective: looking up.

The pieces were done for/with Contributor Magazine, a European-American fashion magazine that is printed biyearly. Ravazzani made this work in July and it is quite simple. He gets the top trees, the edge of an airplane, the top of that one building by The Getty: he catches our city through our absences. In most other cities, when you look up, you are surrounded by buildings. Here? That happens occasionally. His portrayal of Los Angeles hints at our city being more open and certainly less dense, which I cannot tell is a jab at our being “vapid West coast airheads” or unhinged people in a land unencumbered by urbanity. I’m going to assume the latter…

The photos are good and present a funny view of the city, one many of us don’t actually view it from. They also represent a great tension we have between the natural and the man-made in Los Angeles. That’s one thing we have over other cities: lots of palm trees and lots of modern buildings. You can check out more of his Los Angeles photos here.
