Amy Von Harrington’s Tarot Deck
We noticed something we wanted to share while visiting Otherwild’s Tea Dance Taste Test Trunk Show last weekend: artist Amy Von Harrington‘s Tarot Deck. Naturally, we have no idea how to read tarot (I WISH I KNEW HOW.) but Amy’s deck of cards were quite eye popping as they sat on a table in between an arrangement of Arc of LA bags and Paul Mpagi Sepuya’s Beloved Object & Amorous Subject, Revisited.
Amy’s deck consists of collaged visuals to represent classic tarot cards. They can be irreverent and comical but still are a 48 card functional tarot deck. Artists have been making their own card decks or games for a while, which is fine. Those aren’t very exciting. A tarot deck though? Give me some magic collaged cards that reference vintage texts and vintage erotic playing cards and I am in! They are very, very great.
We almost purchased them but, since I have no idea how to use tarot deck and only have my cards read when I’m at a fair of some sort, I figured I would wait until I could use this working metaphysical art piece before purchasing it. The deck is available at Otherwild for $50 and would be a great gift for the tarot lover/mystic that you know. You can and should also check out more of Amy’s work here.
