Michelle Thies is a Los Angeles based illustrator who has a real knack for infusing charm into her work. She is playful and serious and is very talented. We happened upon a series of work she made inspired by a Roald Dahl book titled The Giraffe And The Pelly And Me. She used the source to make really nice and whimsical character posters that we just love.

The posters see some of the story’s biggest figures illustrated with the playfulness that Dahl puts into his writing. The inspiration is a children’s book and Thies really elevates the imagery into playing card moments of the characters at their best. From the pelican swallowing a car to the kindly looking giraffe, you get an idea of what Dahl’s story is about as illustrated by an obvious fan of his work.

Were sure Thies would do a great job of illustrating for any author in need of visually articulating their story–especially if the story is aimed at younger readers. She has lots and lots of other great work in this style and even more complex pieces that almost look like paintings. You can check them out here.
