SoLA are the Sisters of Los Angeles, an Eastside design clique that consists of Barbara Bestor, Karen Alweil, and Sara Stein. They make “Los Angeles-inspired gift and modern memorabilia” that is basically high end, well designed, covetable LA themed products which are “So LA.” Imagine if you collided bright modern shop Plastica with one of those Hollywood Boulevard LA gift shops: SoLA’s products are what would fill the store. One that caught our eye was a group of rocks glasses they’ve made to celebrate Los Angeles canyons, beaches, and highways. These belong in all of our cupboards.
The glasses are simple highballs that are embellished with layers of color. They each say who they are (the Venice one says “VENICE,” all of them in Hollywood sign lettering) and have a little embellishment to them to relay the feeling of this particularly LA hood. The Santa Monica one is orange and pink with blue spotted details and tiny birds. All of the beach glasses have a setting sun on them. Runyon–one of the four canyon glasses–has a blue and orange mountain with an emerald field below it. All of the highway glasses have a stark number, reminding you of your slightly anti-beauty they each have. The collection is so colorful and capture this constant happiness of Los Angeles.
The glasses are certainly going to be very, very gifted around town–and why wouldn’t they be? They are so damn cute and well designed. They run for $44 for a set and the highway ones are available in $6 shot glasses. Pick then up from Yolk in Silver Lake, Kitson, Ron Robinson, MOCA, The Library Store, and more.
