Remember when Metro said it was building cool floating canopies? If you’ve been to the Civic Center station Downtown within the past few months, you will have noticed that the canopy on 1st and Hill is nearly complete. It looks great!
We’ve been to the station a few times in the past few months and have been watching the canopy being constructed. We must have been away from the stop for a month or two because, when we visited on Tuesday, walking up the stairs had a completely different exit view. You just see a screen of metal on pale silver beams. It does shield you from the sky but it also makes you feel like you are emerging from a conch.
The exterior looks just as sleek as the canopy floats on metal elbows. The design is by Steven Casanova of STV Incorporated and certainly does give the corner some pizazz. It’s almost like runoff from the concert hall, which is great because there are so many stiff government buildings surrounding it.
The canopy is techincally still being constructed as you could see fences around the base of the arms. It appears that it just needs a little landscaping love and it’ll be all set to go. We’re sure that it will be completed in the very near future but, for now, enjoy this look at a practically-all-done rad new Metro crown.
