There’s a new venue in town, and it goes by the name Art House Live. Los Angeles has a long lasting and ever changing musical climate. The scenes come and go, shift and evolve. One such change that has taken place over the last several years, is a severe lack of a west-side scene to call your own.
You might have known Father John Misty before Father John Misty was around. His former incarnations included J. Tillman, the drummer for Fleet Foxes, and a long-time Los Angeles resident. However, since the emergence of Father John Misty, it seems that things are really heating up. His debut album, Fear Fun, under the new moniker just released on Sub Pop a little over a week ago, on May 1st.

Blacks& (pronounced Black Sand) is a brand new Los Angeles based band. The four piece was formed last summer over some “whiskey and head-nods.”
R.F. Maston is a ‘one man psychedelic pop band’ who’s not afraid to let you know where his main influence comes from. The new track “Young Hearts” is a freaky psychedelic circus tune, fit for some modern day version of “Across The Universe.”
June 22 at Night Gallery will be a comedy event (!!!) that will see a handful of performers try to make you laugh. The event is free so, if you want some artsy funnies, go to this.
We missed this way back when but apparently LA’s Skrillex (Yeah, yeah, yeah: say what you will.) and G-Star teamed up to make a cool animation. Check it out after the jump.

For all of July, Downtown’s PØST is holding one of their Kamikaze exhibits. What’s this? For a month, they will feature a different artist each nice. Sounds crazy! Some of the artists involved include Molly Larkey (July 1), Lily Simonson (July 8), Veronique d’Entremont (July 21), Fabian Lopez (July 28), and lots more. Love this concept and love these artists!
BLD’s occasional Milkshake Madness is back on June 30. Here’s what they will feature: Malted Milk Chocolate & Kahlua (Yum!), White Chocolate Espresso & Bailey’s (Yum, yum!), and Burnt Caramel & Tequila (YUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMY). It all starts at 5PM that day.
