The Superman Of Hollywood Boulevard

The Superman Of Hollywood Boulevard Dazed Digital Christopher Dennis

The characters of Hollywood and Highland will never not fascinate me. They have been a treat to study with the Hollywood & Highland Character Count and, although a nuisance, provide a valuable LA oddity of folk performance. Some are better than others and many have become local celebrities in their own right. One of the most famous is the dude who plays Superman, an older gentleman who bears a striking resemblance to Christopher Reeve. What’s his story? Well, Dazed made a really wonderful short film that gives you a peek into this Superman’s life, to explain what happens behind the cape.

The Hollywood & Highland Character Count: December 13

The Hollywood & Highland Character Count December 13 1

As a means by which to chronicle what is going on in the American cultural zeitgeist and how we cater to that, The Hollywood And Highland Character Count is an infrequently occurring sociological examination. Every few Fridays, we’ll share who the performers are that are clogging the Hollywood and Highland sidewalks and see how they change and shift in relationship to what is happening in the entertainment world. We’ll make predictions, keep count of who stays and goes, and log just what is happening at the best microcosm of what is on the world’s mind: Hollywood and Highland.

We Got A CD From One Of Those Hollywood CD Guys And Here Is What They Sound Like

We Got A CD From One Of Those Hollywood CD Guys And Here Is What They Sound Like 1

You know those guys on Hollywood and Highland who walk around saying things like “You like rap music?” and “You like hip hop?” and then they try to give you a CD or put some headphones in your ears for you to listen to something? You know those guys? We’re way too familiar with them as we pass them daily to get to the train station. We’ve been fascinated by them for years and have always wanted to stop and say, “Yeah, sure, I do like rap music: what you got for me?” They just always catch you at a bad time and we actually heard that they try to scam you, making you pay them, which is not how we thought it worked. We thought they were free publicity! But, like the in-real-life pop-up ads that they are, you ultimately have to pay for something.

While in the area recently to cover a Character Count (Coming up at 4PM!), we passed a sleeved CD on the ground during our walk around the block. As we headed out, we went back by the dropped CD and–thankfully–it was still there. We picked it up and it was exactly what we hoped it was: one of those “You like rap music??” guys’ CD that was left behind by someone. We snatched it up and, man, are we excited to tell you what these homemade productions sound like.
