Get this: Monday, to close out Harper Simon’s month long residency at The Satellite, will be a new poetry from Mandy Kahn with a score by Becky Stark which will be performed by Kahn, Stark, and The Angeles Choir. Crazy! Sounds very fun. It’s free, too!
Coming March 21 with LA artist Lili Cuzor’s installation at The Standard Hollywood is Book Stand, a traveling art hook shop. It’s open until April 22.
It feels like a very long time ago but, at one point, The Fox Is Black had a giveaway of the zine RRR. It was the second issue of the very graphically driven publication and we were so super pumped to see more from it. As things go, time passes, people get busy, and two years ago feels like a month ago and you have no idea how you got to where you currently are. That’s why it came as a super pleasant surprise to find a special surprise in the mail: a new issue of RRR. What a welcome surprise!
Novel Brand is a curious Los Angeles gift book maker who takes old books and folds its insides all up into these super fascinating shapes. From hearts to words to geometric patterns, Novel Brand transforms pages into book art turning quietly written words into very large statements. They’re really a beautiful (And so simple!) repurposing of old reading materials.
June 22 at Night Gallery will be a comedy event (!!!) that will see a handful of performers try to make you laugh. The event is free so, if you want some artsy funnies, go to this.
We missed this way back when but apparently LA’s Skrillex (Yeah, yeah, yeah: say what you will.) and G-Star teamed up to make a cool animation. Check it out after the jump.
MOCAtv needs your help: Rafaël Rozendaal and you are going to be creating an online art piece. They want you to give a URL idea in the comments and Rafaël will choose the “most inspiring” of the lot to pursue as an art project. Some of our faves currently in the comments include “WhoAreHue,” “FatChildren,” and “CryingOctopus.” Watch the promo/video you should comment on below and enter soon!
For all of July, Downtown’s PØST is holding one of their Kamikaze exhibits. What’s this? For a month, they will feature a different artist each nice. Sounds crazy! Some of the artists involved include Molly Larkey (July 1), Lily Simonson (July 8), Veronique d’Entremont (July 21), Fabian Lopez (July 28), and lots more. Love this concept and love these artists!
BLD’s occasional Milkshake Madness is back on June 30. Here’s what they will feature: Malted Milk Chocolate & Kahlua (Yum!), White Chocolate Espresso & Bailey’s (Yum, yum!), and Burnt Caramel & Tequila (YUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMY). It all starts at 5PM that day.
