Yesterday was haircut day for us. We went to the only place we ever go: Rudy’s Barbershop in Silver Lake. It’s our favorite barbershop in town and they do a great job for their price point. The space is super great, too. It was different yesterday because there are a lot of new things–namely a little pop-up shop and a pop-up coffee space. What makes getting a hair cut better? Drooling over vintage clothes and coffee.
A few weeks back we heard on Twitter that Echo Park Lake was being filled up–but was it? We were incredibly curious and had been wanting to find time to investigate for weekends. Is the Lake on the cusp of being opened to the public? Is it far from being completed? Does it look pristine and new and great? MOCA PDC is welcoming former LAIY cover boy Chris Johanson for a solo show that will feature paintings, sculptures, and more. It’s called Within The River of Time Is My Mind and will be running from June 29 through September 22.

After our most recent pro-LA rant, we heard from reader Xárene Eskandar about an LA loving project she’s doing: she calls it Los Angeles County Weather Reports and they are Monday weather reports that represent her love for LA. Great concept!
Multi-talent John Hogan has a May 24 and May 25 show at Automata in Chung King. The piece is called Song Of Yourselves and it is being described as “part performance art, part song cycle, part slide show, part karaoke.” That’s a lot! Sounds interesting.
