It’s well known that chocolate is a decadent treats. It’s a holiday favorite and what you give a significant other on special occasions: chocolate is special. Topanga based chocolatiers Zenbunni have put a whimsical element into their very luxurious chocolates. They are packaged to look like little Art Nouveau golden treats–and their taste matches such fanciful claims.
For years now I’ve lamented trampling over graves at Hollywood Forever just to get a good seat for a Purple Rain screening, but this past Saturday at the cemetery’s 13th annual Dia de los Muertos celebration, the act felt more like an inclusion than a violation. We were there to remember and celebrate the dead. With over one hundred altars honoring the deceased, two stages hosting live music all day, a dance stage, an art exhibit, and a multitude of elaborate Calaca costumes, I think we succeeded in waking the dead.
I’ve talked about how petrified I am of skateboarding. It should come as no surprise that skateboarding apparel and brands are in no way on my radar because they remind me of skateboarding, which reminds me of falling, which reminds me of cuts and bruises, etc. Thus, I’m very out of touch with what Irvine based skateboarding brand Element has been up to. What have they been up to? You would guess that they still skating as usual. Well, they’ve actually stepped up their game and are diversifying with smaller, niche collections. The Emerald Collection is their most premium, organic line they’ve made that brings casual sophistication to their mens wears. We dig it.

We are beyond overdue for visit to Echo Park’s Myrtle, a little boutique by Whitney Bickers that opened last year. They have some really cute ladywears and are really the only boutique we can think of between Silver Lake and Downtown. We were perusing their site and found some Fall 2012 looks by Elkin, an Echo Park brand that Myrtle carries that we’re totally digging. They’re making clothing items perfect for LA’s constantly fluctuating hot-and-cold-and-hot Autumns.
